It's not necessarily a bad decision. I started my coming out process sophomore year. Broke up with my girlfriend and came out to the people close to me. Came out to my parents too. Junior year I got a little more relaxed so that most people I hung out with knew. Senior year I just didn't care anymore. People could know. It was the truth. Sure it was suburban/rural Tennessee, and yes I got some people talking behind my back, but overall, I feel it was a good decision to be out in HS. Now I'm in college, out, working on a degree in Asian Studies and hope to become a translator for a major Japanese company. I've had my share of heartbreak (mostly long-distance) and I would also love to experience this dating world. Tennessee just doesn't have much of it, you know?
I must agree with OP that the sex-crazed stuff gets on my nerves. Sure, sex is fun. It's fun to think about. But I can't stand the people who just flat out use it in a way to just fuck everyone. It gets really annoying. It makes gays seem shallow, and as I personally am not a super-sexy, thin, twink, or super-muscled jock, makes me wonder when I'll find that perfect guy.

Once I head off to college in a few months I'll probably be somewhat open. Right now, living in southern Georgia, I would have no chance if I came out. Only one other person knows, and she is the greatest friend I can ever hope to have.

I plan on being successful, I've been accepted to UCLA and hope to major in Economics. Afterwards I'll get an MBA or something. That's too far ahead. I'm going to be childless and happy as hell about it.
